Drawbridge 2023

This residency took place in The Pulp Room at St Anne’s House, October 2023.

The artist participants were recent UWE graduates from at least three courses: Hammer Chen, Liz Greaves, Catherine White, Mary Armenti, James Bragg, Jake Cooper, Kei Fern Langley, Christine Dong, Sam Bryan, Marian Kilpatrick , Becky Slater. Emma Gregory facilitated the group’s explorations in drawing, print and conceptual thinking and Hammer Chen documented activity in four very short films:

Round and Round - drawing and rubbing out in the round

Cone Play - the resulting drawing is cut to create props

10m roll - the group screen print and animate a 10m length of wallpaper

Print to Performance - the group print costumes, set and imagery for a projection, then improvise a performance with soundtrack using what they have made.

A display of images, drawings and texts in the ‘Curio’ vitrine in St Anne’s reception area named the artists involved and provided the residency with a public-facing presence throughout.
